Line managers help you to develop in your job
All Robinwood staff have a line manager assigned to support them throughout their employment and to help them develop within their role at Robinwood.
Line managers want you to enjoy your work
Line managers are keen to see that members of their line team enjoy their work and to feel engaged in it. They aim for every member of their team to feel listened to and supported throughout their work, with plenty of opportunity to develop and grow in their time at Robinwood.
Line managers have frequent job chats with members of their team and if you have any queries, problems or ideas your line manager is always a good person to speak to.
As well as job chats your line manager will observe activity sessions and give feedback to help you develop and improve, both in delivering activity sessions and the role of group leader as a whole.
Line team meetings
Line teams also get together, generally twice each season for line team meetings, at which different aspects of working at Robinwood can be discussed, with proposals put forward and feedback gathered from the staff team.

The training team
At each centre we have a training team made up of a manager and staff in range of different positions, including group leaders. This provides the opportunity for staff at all levels who are interested to get involved, to help decide on aspects of the training provided, including the allocation of money from the training budget.
Wide ranging training options
We get independent experts and staff from within Robinwood to deliver centre based training on a range of topics including;
Working SEN children
Mental health awareness
Consultation takes place, through the training team, with the staff at each centre on the training we provide.
Canoeing and Climbing Development Days
Our senior instructors and training instructors run training days at a variety of venues to develop canoeing and climbing skills. All staff have the opportunity to develop. from whatever their current level is and over time to gain national governing body qualifications which can be great for career progression, all paid for and supported by Robinwood.
Some development days take place during work time, but we also offer additional opportunities outside of work time, enabling staff to progress at their own pace to achieve coaching qualifications.
Nationally recognised awards available to all staff, paid for by Robinwood include;
Climbing Instructor Awards
Canoe / Paddlesports Skills Awards
Canoe / Paddlesports Coaching Awards
Many more awards can be achieved
These initially include;
Other training opportunities are available paid for by Robinwood, sometimes resulting in nationally recognised qualifications and often taking place as a result of line manager consultation on development options.
The best way to really understand what is involved with working at Robinwood is to deliver a Robinwood course for a group of children, and that is why everyone who works at Robinwood starts as a group leader, regardless of their previous experience.
For committed staff with the right qualities, we have many opportunities to progress and good career prospects.
Staff can progress, through a series of promotions from Course Leader, to Senior Course Leader, then Senior Instructor and on to Manager Roles.
There are also increments available for different areas of responsibility including; Lead Cleaners, Lead Cooks, Grounds and Maintenance staff. The role of Training Instructor is another increment offered, which (with appropriate qualifications held) involves delivering training to staff and completing safety checks on activity equipment.
The range of options available means that, from the starting point of group leader, staff can choose the next steps they would like to take, dependent on their own strengths and interests.
Our vision at Robinwood is to make a really positive difference developing children – one of the most worthwhile things that anyone can do in a job! We hope that by listening to staff and investing in their development we can make a positive difference in the lives of those who work for the company.
