What centre do you work at and what’s great about where you  live?

I started working at Barhaugh Hall September 2018. Even though it was a huge change for me it was worth it as the little town of Alston is so welcoming and friendly that I felt at home straight away. With so many mountains to climb and waterfalls to traipse though it has meant my weekends and days off have been jam packed full of fun.

Why did you choose Robinwood?

Wanting to work with children has always been an ideal career for me, however I felt that teaching in a classroom would possibly take away the fun and outward thinking aspect out of the job. What’s so great about working at Robinwood is that I can help children develop skills they wouldn’t necessarily learn in a classroom. Making the job even more rewarding!

How did you find the selection process?

The selection process was super chilled out and so fun but at the same time rather intense! I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t, but the selection staff are looking for the best people to come and work for Robinwood. I was put through my paces; given on the spot challenges to see how well I worked under pressure and to see what I could bring to the team here at Barhaugh.

What’s your favorite thing about working for Robinwood?

The staff here are amazing, they are like a little family and super friendly, walking around centre on the first I was greeted by many of the staff members. This made me feel so welcome and made it easy for me to fit right in.

What is the best part of your job?

Seeing a group of children thrive over 3 days, becoming more confident after every activity and leaving Robinwood with new skills and a new found love for the outdoors is the best part of the job!

Why do you enjoy working with 7-11 year olds?

It’s a great age group to work with as they are willing to give anything a go with a bit of persuasion. Their imaginations run wild and can be filled with all sorts of ideas which can be brought to life here at Robinwood.

Describe your first group in 5 words.

It can only get better!

What’s been your funniest moment

Seeing my first ever group doing Nightline hearing them shout “Kav, I can’t see anything!” to which my response was “THAT’S THE WHOLE POINT!”

What is your favourite session to run and why?

All the session at Robinwood are fun to run, my favourites would have to be Giant Swing and Knights Quest. Both really fun and easy once you get the hang of how everything works.

What advice would you give to someone considering applying?

Even if you have never done anything like this before… give it a go! There is no harm in trying! It may turn out to be one of the best things you ever do!
