Staff Well-being Week 2017

At Robinwood we have the health and well-being of staff as a high priority. We offer a cycle to work scheme as well as incentives for staff to walk to work – which benefits the environment as well as staff fitness! We provide an employee assistance programme through which staff have access to telephone counselling and face to face well-being consultations.

As well as all this we also have a well-being team at each centre that organise well-being events. Here is a brief write up of our latest well-being weeks.

Barhaugh Hall

Another year goes by and another successful Well-being Week is had by all at Barhaugh Hall! Starting Monday 13th the week kicked off with fresh fruit, smoothies and a free healthy breakfast & snacks available to all staff. The smoothies were a new addition to Well-being Week and were well received, with many different people creating a menagerie of concoctions (some were great, some less so). Tuesday saw a session of Yoga taking place at the high school. Which we will be running more of, after getting some great feedback from staff! On Wednesday we played dodge ball in teams of four (or three, in one case), with a little fancy dress thrown in. Sadly, there were no pirates, but we did dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge! With the winning team receiving a free falconry experience day.

Friday saw a professional voice coach come in to do some work with instructors. They helped with projecting and protecting their voice. The session was very popular and many a laugh could be heard coming from the room. Many of the staff took advantage of the free swim at Hexham and a free climb at Eden Rock. The Barhaugh Hall Well-being team are looking forward to the year ahead, with different activities planned for every month; ranging from yoga, swimming, dance, aqua aerobics, de-stress month, craft making sessions and many more.

Todmorden Centres

Throughout the week in Todmorden we had a number of activities for everybody to get involved with. To start and finish the week, football was on at the sports centre with loads of people showing up to brush up on their skills. Each morning their were smoothies for all the staff to start their day off with a fruity energetic kick. On Monday and Wednesday evenings there was Badminton for anybody who wished to play and throughout the whole week there was free gym and swim and a free boulder session at Rock’d climbing centre.

To round off the whole week on Friday we had our well-being evening. The ever popular physio, Mike Murray was there to cure everyone’s ailments. While everyone was waiting to see Mike we had some food and a chill out zone in the main hall where we were able to watch some adventure sports films on the big screen. Alongside that, there was the option to try out yoga and be taught some great tips on how to give a massage.

To finish off the evening, 3 time Olympic marathon swimmer, Double world champion & Olympic Silver medallist Keri-Anne Payne came along to tell us about her experience’s as an Olympic athlete. How she prepares, her nutrition, challenges and story’s to inspire us. She even brought along her medals for us to have look at. It was a great week and good fun was had by all.
