What centre do you work at and what’s great about where you  live?
Todmorden centres, predominantly Dobroyd Castle. I live in Accrington.

Why did you choose Robinwood?
I found the application form on line by chance and thought it looked like a good opportunity.

How did you find the selection process?
Unique! Never done anything like it before and saw it as a great opportunity to show off what I had to offer.

What’s your favorite thing about working for Robinwood?
The staff team is great. Come rain or shine there is always someone with a smiley face, funny story or just a nice hello. I’ve worked in a few places and the people you work with can and do make a real difference to how much you enjoy your job.

What was the highlight of your training?
Canoe training on an icy lake. Hard work at the time but some really good memories.

What’s the Coolest part of your job?
Working with such a wide range of people. From colleagues to customers you never get bored of meeting new people.

What is it like working with 7-11 year olds?
Good fun and rewarding. It can be hard going at times but that’s part of the challenge. They are a great age group to work with as they are really starting to find themselves and are so keen to develop. The children aren’t bad either!

What’s the most challenging part of your job?
Part of my role is to assess instructors on activities and give them feedback on how they can improve and develop further. It is a challenging role as you are assessing your peers but ultimately we are all here to improve the quality of the courses we provide.

Describe your first group in 5 words.
Scary, whirlwind, fun, successful, survived.

What’s the funniest thing a child has said?
A child asked me to get a helicopter to get them off the Giant Swing.

What’s been your funniest moment?
Paddling rafted canoes on an icy lake with children shouting out titanic quotes.

What is your favourite session to run and why?
Crate Challenge – I like getting the groups mixed up so they are working with people they wouldn’t usually choose and seeing them work so hard for each other to get the winning tower.

Have you been on any social events and what were they like?
Robinwood socials are great! I have been on many and they never disappoint. End of season themed nights are always a good laugh seeing everyone let their hair down out of the working environment. Fun days to different places and doing different things are good like doing the blob at Surf Snowdonia.

Have you tried anything new since starting Robinwood?
Climbing and Dragon Boat racing.

What extra training have you done since joining Robinwood and is there more you plan to do?
CWA and looking to get some paddling qualifications in the not so distant future.

What advice would you give to someone considering applying?
I only planned on Robinwood being a short term thing but it has changed my whole outlook on life in a really positive way. I would recommend Robinwood to anyone considering it and the advice I’d give them is Why Not?
